Horse racing, horse riding and other miscellaneous things

We have had great fall weather so far and have been out and about enjoying it.

We've found a great new weekend pastime (before it gets too cold!) is cycling down to one of the 2 horse tracks we have within a couple miles of our house. It's exciting and different and we even got into the spirit with a few small bets - although we knew nothing about any of the horses since all the informational material was in Danish and shockingly did not come out ahead - but we had fun anyway :-)

First we tried out Derby racing at the Charlottenlund Travbane

We have also gone to the Klampenborg Galobane in the Deer park a couple times. The grounds here were so beautiful and they conveniently have a playground as well. In both places, you can get incredibly close to the racers.

Raegan is still loving her weekly horse riding lessons. They have had the girls working outside for the past few weeks. The class even went on a ride out of the pony club through the neighborhood, which Raegan especially loved.

One weekend day we took the kids to the Freetown Christiania just so we could see it once - it's a very unusual place near downtown that is a self proclaimed autonomous neighborhood. It's interesting, you can read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freetown_Christiania

Basically, it's a hippie neighborhood and things are legal there that are not legal elsewhere. They have signs when you enter the Green Light District (Pusher Street) where residents are selling things openly on a street, and where cameras are banned. It was a very quiet place (although we were there in the morning!) and you can walk around the buildings that people have squatted in and turned into their shared homes. We told Raegan that this was a place where they don't have rules and her observation was that it was messy/dirty and that you need rules so that places don't get that way.

And here is a picture of Wyatt in his school playground with his little "best friends" - it's super cute, the boys all play really well together.

Raegan also had her first lesson of bike riding without training wheels. She did well, we will keep working!

The kids both like to take their bikes out and ride into our little main street down the road. Wyatt is proud of his new helmet - he has gotten quite fast on his bike so we figured he needed one too!

Fall here is quite pretty with all the brilliant colors - I couldn't resist taking photos.

And here is the brand new wood pile we had delivered - for our old school wood burning stove we have in our living room - we discovered it makes the downstairs quite cozy and is definitely worth the effort to make a fire on cold evenings.

Wyatt and I have been enjoying "fun Fridays" together - often joined by our friends Marie-anna and Conor. Here we are at the zoo while Raegan is in school.

We got this wagon for the boys to ride in, but they found it much more fun to pull it

 The baby lions were adorable
